Mardol police have arrested two persons on charges of breaking into a house at Tivre-Orgao and stealing jewellery worth Rs 1.97 lakh.

According to Mardol police, the burglary had been reported at Madan Gaonkar’s house which was locked.

On Tuesday at around 1 pm, two suspects broke into the house of Gaonkar and stole the gold jewellery.

Coincidentally, Gaonkar’s family returned home at that time and saw the main door open. They became alert but two suspects, Asphak Kadur and Sikandar alias Chikoo Shaikh, both natives of Karnataka but residing in Vasco, who were inside the house ran away from the backdoor.

The suspects fled in an auto which was parked in the vicinity of the house. The locals followed the auto and intercepted it at Bhoma. One of the suspects, however, ran away in the nearby forest, while the other was caught by the locals, who handed him over to police.
